MBTI®

FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE MBTI®

What it is…..

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is based on the theory of
Carl Gustav Jung’s psychological types and developed over many years into practical and well researched use by a mother and daughter team, Katharine Briggs and Isabel Myers.
It is now used worldwide and has been translated into a
number of different languages.

By understanding and valuing the differences between types, individually and in a group setting, we come to appreciate what each can bring.  There are many applications of the MBTI®: it is certainly a tool of development and personal/spiritual growth, as it can take us into what Jung called “the shadow-side of the personality”. Excellent too for team building, coaching, leadership, change and stress, communication and can help in conflict resolution.

Essential to the MBTI® is that it is CONFIDENTIAL TO THE PERSON. Sharing with another calls for the express
and unpressured – permission of the person concerned.  It is not a tool for selection (an unethical use of the MBTI®). It is simply a way to look at a person’s “preferred” way of looking at the world, collecting information and making decisions and to value that others do these differently.

Ann O’Sullivan offers a basic introduction to the MBTI® on a 1:1 basis, with sessions lasting from 1½ hours currently at a cost of  £50 per hour (including materials).  Workshops can be tailored to meet the needs of specific groups/organisations.

The workshops shown below are planned for registered practitioners of the MBTI® and those well versed in the instrument.

All workshops include input, experiential exercises, individual and group work.

Ann writes:

After receiving requests for on-going workshops using the MBTI, I have decided to include some in our 2020 programme as 1 day-workshops.

I realise how far the MBTI has travelled from its original purpose as a road to human/personal/spiritual development and appreciation of differences, and how easy it is to live on the surface of type. With 40 years of diverse experience behind me, I would like to share and pass on some of this to others.

I have recently reflected with BAPT (British Association of Psychological Type, of which I was the founder Chair, then President), how easy it would be/is for type “to become like a tree that has lost its roots”. We live at a time where both the instant and the new seem to be the attraction and in a world where money seems to be the driving force. In other words so focussed on our outer world that our inner world can get overlooked or even forgotten.

I often quote “If I am not doing my journey, what use am I to others on theirs?”

So in offering these workshops the emphasis will be focused on ourselves as we work through the different approaches, which necessarily will result on how we are with others on their journeys.
